When I was a little girl, my grandmother Elizabeth would often look at me and say, “Quanto sei bella,” which means, “How beautiful you are,” in Italian.
Elizabeth was the first child born in America in 1909 to an Italian immigrant family. She carried herself with quiet strength and grace. To her, beauty was never about perfection. It was about presence, warmth, confidence, and love.
When she passed away at age 94, I was just 12 years old.
But the way she made me feel never left me.
Seen, loved, and beautiful exactly as I was.
She taught me to appreciate the beauty in life, to accept who I was, and to put family first. Though my time with her was brief, her influence shaped the woman I would become.
Years later, as I faced my own journey of losing and reclaiming my glow, her words echoed in my heart.
